What is home insurance?
Your home insurance can be made up of buildings insurance, contents insurance or both. You need buildings insurance to cover the cost of rebuilding your home should the worst happen and contents insurance to covers your possessions in the home against risks such as fire and theft. Cover for accidental damage is also available for a modest addition to your contents premium.
How does home insurance pay out?
Building insurance covers you for the cost of replacing your property - based on the cost of rebuilding your home rather than its market value. Your home contents policy pays out the current cost of replacing your possessions on a new for old basis (except for clothing and linen) even if they are a few years old.
Who is home insurance for?
Although it is not legally required, anyone taking out a mortgage usually has to have buildings insurance to comply with the terms and conditions of their mortgage provider. To make sure your personal belongings are insured, you should have contents cover in place as well.
How much home insurance do you need?
If you are not sure how to work out the value of all your possessions or the rebuilding cost of your house, don’t worry because you don’t need to. Because Ecclesiastical uses your full postcode we can give you a building insurance quote that’s more closely related to your property. If you think that either or both of our automatic limits of £500,000 buildings cover or £60,000 contents cover may not be enough for your needs, we can offer you an alternative product.
What levels of cover are included as standard?
- Up to £2,500 per claim for contents in the garden
- Up to £250 per item for plans and shrubs, to a maximum of £2,500 per policy year
- Up to £1,000 per claim for replacement locks if your keys are lost or stolen
- Cover for storm damage to fences, hedges and gates when main building is damaged at the same time
- Up to £2,500 cover for guests’ personal belongings per claim
- 20% automatic contents sums insured increase around family celebrations
- Up to £5,000 total contents cover for immediate family’s belongings in a care home per policy year
- Cover for your home business equipment – up to £10,000
- Up to £5,000 cover for loss or damage to contents of garages and outbuildings per policy year
- Up to £5,000 contents cover whilst in student accommodation per policy year
- Sentinel® Card Protection for all your credit, debit and store cards against loss or theft
How much does home insurance cost?
Because we use your full postcode – not just your postcode district or sector like some insurers - we can give you a building insurance quote that’s as closely related to your own property as possible. We only need a few other details, including how many bedrooms you have in your home. You can buy your buildings insurance and contents insurance separately, or members can save 10% by taking them both out together. You could even save an extra 10% if you buy online.
How do you make a claim?
We like to keep claims simple for our members, so when you claim, we’ll work swiftly, and deal with your claim fairly. You can claim 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by phone, email, or online. You can also fax or post your claim and we will respond to your claim within one working day. We’ll also give you the contact details of the person who is handling your claim, so you always know who to talk to with any queries.
